Devon 21 Article
Devon 21 Article
From Camper and Commercial
The Fun Bus is a Devon 21 and was registered in 1977. It was the same Ocean Blue and White then as he is today. He is one of a limited edition of just 50 vans made to celebrate the Queen's Silver Jubilee and the maker's 21st birthday. You can read more about the background of the Fun Bus by clicking the picture of the article to the right.

The engine is a 1600cc reconditioned one that was added when the previous one exploded in July 2001. The conversion was by Devon and is quite sparse. The units are low and one seat in the back can be removed to create a loadbay area. There are a couple of advantages to this. Firstly when in camping mode the interior is very light and then it doubles as a practical load carrying van.

In Feburary 2003 the Bus proved his practicality, when over the course of a week it moved the contents of our flat across London to our new place.

But the best use of the Fun Bus is for travelling and exploring. In the accounts of our adventures you will see pictures of the Fun Bus' interior in use. The cooker can swing outside and is a double hob and grill. Just enough to prepare a hearty meal. Then inside of the bus can switch to a four person full dining mode. After a tasty supper by candle and dusk light, the back seat folds down as a so-called rock'n'roll bed. Which is an accurate name on many occasions;)

Camper Conversions

Conversions. They're what make a VW van into a home on wheels. From pop-tops to rock'n'roll beds, Westfalia to Danbury, how do you choose?

The main conversions

Westfalia (Top Left) - Perhaps the best quality of conversion. Favoured by those who'll be on the road for months at a time. The wood is attractive and durable though perhaps enclosing and a little darker than other more low rise conversions

Viking (Top Right) - Distinguished by their enormous full length pop-tops which aren't attractive when stowed, but look better when up and offer child sized sleeping space up in the top. A good option for families.

Danbury (Bot Left) - I don't know much about Danbury conversions so anyone who can give us a rundown on what they are like is welcome to mail us with a description.

Devon (Bot Right) - What the fun bus is. Take a look above for the details. There are different eras of Devon conversions - Dormobiles, Moonrakers, Caravettes and Tourvettes.
