Friday 22 - Tuesday 26 Aug 2008
It's been a four years exactly since our last adventure in the fun bus, so it was with excitement that we headed out on the road again for the first trip since the completion of the major bodywork restoration.
Our trip this late Summer Bank Holiday was to Devon for Natalie's wedding. We started out from London late on Friday morning in the car and arrived mid-afternoon in Weymouth. We packed the van, stocked up with food, and took the coastal road out of town.
The weather was bright and we made it up the long steep hill at Abbotsbury without even a grumble from the engine, but we stopped to check the engine was fine just in case. David took the opportunity to get a picture of the van with the dramatic background of Chesil Beach, Portland and Weymouth.
We saw very few VWs on the road which surprised us as we had been looking forward to getting back to waving! We arrived at Leadstone Camping in Dawlish in time to set up camp and cook dinner in the evening light. Upon retiring for the night we remembered one of the less fun parts of camping out, the noise. Until midnight the neighbouring group of young people were playing drinking games and once they had fallen silent we were left with the noise of snoring in stereo. We decided in the morning to sleep in the van the next night.
